Metropolitan College at Johnson C. Smith University and Queen City Cocoa B.E.A.N.S., with the cooperation of Novant Health Medical Centers, Mecklenburg County Public Health and a local birthing center, have developed a Pathway 2 comprehensive clinical training program in breastfeeding and human lactation. The Lactation Program provides both clinical and didactic components required for a Pathway 2 program.
The Cabarrus monthly cafés will be moving to Conversation Peace Restaurant beginning May 17, 2017.

Alumni Spotlight: Rachel Davis
Rachel Davis graduated from The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Public Health from the Department of Maternal and Child Health in 2013. Upon graduating, Rachel worked in South Carolina as a registered dietitian (RD) and lactation consultant (IBCLC) with the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). She then transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina and continued with the RD/IBCLC role in WIC and a maternity clinic within the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. In both states, she conducted assessments and care plans for at-risk clients and provided nutrition and breastfeeding education, support and services.
Currently, Rachel serves as the Regional Breastfeeding Coordinator for Perinatal Care Region III in NC. She is responsible for the planning, organizing, evaluating and supervision of WIC breastfeeding program activities in Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Stanly, and Union county. She is also one of the leaders of Queen City Cocoa B.E.A.N.S., a collaborative organization committed to creating opportunities to advance breastfeeding education, advocacy, normalcy and support (B.E.A.N.S.) among minority communities in the Charlotte and surrounding areas of North Carolina. Rachel has a strong desire and passion for helping others. She feels her job is highly rewarding and loves being able to motivate and assist individuals and families in improving their health and well-being.
